All are G models. Panzertruppen 2 (Jentz) states in Normandy the Panther Battalion was I Abteilung 24th Panzer Regiment. 116th's Panzer Regiment is the 16th, not 24th. I/24th was an Independent Panther Regiment. Initial G production had 2 exhausts with the jack hanging vertically between them. A change to the exhaust eliminated the need for the extra 2 cooling pipes on the left exhaust on the Panther A. In May 44 cast iron guards on the exhaust were replaced with welded ones. June 44 sheet metal covers were added to hide the exhaust pipes. Oct 44 flame suppressor mufflers replaced the sheet metal mufflers. Dec 44 Flame Suppressor Exhaust mufflers had a curved hood added to the mufflers, including retro-fit to those in the field. Model A Panther also had 2 exhausts. This was changed to 3 (actually 1 plus two added pipes for cooling) on the left (facing rear) and 1 on the right. Model A Panthers never had sheet metal covers added.<br />Removal of the gun cleaning rods from the left side of the hull and moving them to the top rear of the engine deck was an unauthorized field modification (also done to some Jagdpanther). Picture page 138 shows Panther D Sept 43 with road wheels mounted on left and right rear sides of hull so at least one unit did it that wasn't 116th Panzer. Model A production ceased by July 44. Model G started in March 44. Need to find when I/24th was equipped.Tankguy1https://www.blogger.com/profile/12429782968606368158noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22155840.post-47036157704328585742013-06-08T20:35:35.477-04:002013-06-08T20:35:35.477-04:00Very useful thnx Mike:
